$245.00

Date: May 23rd

Time: 10am- 4pm (ET)

Class: Each registration is good for one person, if multiple individuals wish to take the course, please have each individual register for the course in order to participate!

After teaching 30+ workshops in 8 different countries to over 400 students this spring I am offering my first online Masterclass. Join me in this 6 hour crash course on making Ceramic Furniture. During the workshop I will instruct slab and coil techniques for building large scale works; when and how to add internal structures to your furniture, and how to design structurally sound furniture. Additionally, I’ll cover moisture control, shrinkage planning, and crack repair techniques. This masterclass is designed for students of all levels eager to refine their skills and push ceramic knowledge. To see more information on previous workshops visit my instagram, @austincoudriet

Recording Policy: The masterclass will not be recorded as it is designed to be a live course. The intention behind this is to maintain the same structure in this masterclass as all of my previous workshops. There will be a moderator for the entirety of the call who will address any questions, comments or concerns that may arise throughout the course.

*Refund Policy – Online Masterclass

  • Before May 16th: A $210 will be issued for cancellations.

  • After June 16th: A refund of $160 will be issued for cancellations

Outcome: By the end of the workshop, participants will have learned how to craft a furniture piece, navigating the entire process from conceptual design to material selection, construction, and finishing techniques. Students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the technical challenges and creative possibilities involved in ceramic furniture-making. Participants will:

  • Master Essential Ceramic Techniques: Learn and apply foundational skills such as slab construction, coil building, and the use of internal supports to create durable and functional pieces.

  • Understand Material Properties: Deepen their understanding of clay behavior, such as shrinkage, warping, and cracking, and learn how to manipulate these properties to ensure the longevity and stability of their work.

  • Learn Adaptive Problem-Solving: By troubleshooting construction issues like warping, cracking, and weight distribution, participants will learn how to think critically about their furniture design and how to make adjustments as needed.

  • Navigate the Firing Process: Learn about kiln schedules, firing temperatures, and proper drying techniques, empowering them to manage the critical stages of firing and prevent issues during the drying process.

In addition to acquiring technical skills, participants will leave the workshop with the confidence to approach future projects independently, armed with a thorough understanding of the complexities involved in large-scale ceramic works and furniture design.

Tools I will be using during the workshop:

- Wire tool

- Needle tool

- Various metal ribs

- Serrated ribs
